Lucknow

The Regional Science City of Lucknow is planned and developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) which is an independent institution that functions under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The Regional Science City of Lucknow is the new addition to the family of National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).

This regional Science City is also one of the satellite units of the National Science Centre in Delhi. The Regional Science Centre has now been upgraded to Regional Science City and was inaugurated on 21st September in the year 2007.

It is a pioneer foundation which is engaged in the popularization of science in the state of Uttar Pradesh since 1989. The council operates through 27 Science centers and museums that are spread all over the country out of which one is the Regional Science City of Lucknow which since its start has garnered more than 45 lakh visitors.

This Science Centre was actually the very first stepping stone for bringing out the joy that comes by learning interactive science. The updating of the centre to the Regional Science City has developed beautifully that ushers in a new wave of learning science in a non-formal mode and in a truly interactive ambience. 

The sole aim of the Regional Science City of Lucknow is to build scientific awareness and temperament among the students and general public to complement formal science education and generate curiosity of science in the students of the area. 

The curious nature and the ability to ask questions is one of the main significant features that differentiate a man from the rest of the people. It is a slow development through which a man gets to appreciate nature. This movement has actually yielded great results and led to the development of science and technology. The current society today is reaping the benefits of this movement strongly.

Kolkata

The Regional Science Centre of Kolkata spreads over an area of about 6.71 acres and showcases hundreds of exhibits that aim at stimulating interest in science among school students majorly. It has now been handed over to the State Government of Kolkata at a function. 

The Regional Science Centre of Kolkata was developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NSCM) which is a Kolkata based autonomous society operates under the Union Ministry of Culture.

This Regional science centre is now run by the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre. The State and Central Governments have evenly shared the cost of the centre which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa.

The Union Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch at the function had addressed that this was the 44th science centre in the country.

The quick enhancements in science and technology enabled the country to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production and rapid strides in other fields as well.

These kinds of centers played a very significant role in instilling a scientific temperament in the school going students many of whom were not opting for a career in science. 

The opening timing of this centre is from 10 in the morning to 5.45 in the evening on all days although it remains closed on national holidays. The entry fee to visit the centre is 15 rupees for adults and 5 rupees for children and for the 3D theatre; the entry fee remains 10 rupees for the adults and 5 rupees for the children.

Uttarakhand

Nations 16th Regional Science Centre and Uttarakhand’s first was inaugurated by Dr Mahesh Sharma at Jhajhra, Dehradun, in the presence of Chief Minister Harish Rawat and some others.

This Regional Science Center has been built at a cost of about Rs. 12.5 crore.

A variety of exhibits and amenities have been included in the centre to attain its purpose of inculcating scientific bent of mind in the masses and youngsters more importantly.
