The Tadoba National Park derives its name from the God 'Tadoba' or 'Taru'. This god is praised by the tribal inhabitants who live in the dense forests of the Tadoba and Andhari area. At the same time, the Andhari River that meanders through the forest is the reason for the name 'Andhari'. The Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve or National park spreads over an area of about 1,727 square kilometers although the core area of the tiger reserve is 625.40 square kilometers. Apart from all this, the reserve includes 32.51 square kilometers of sheltered forest area and 14.93 square kilometers of other areas. The Tadoba National Park is filled with dense forested hills which form the northern and western margin of the tiger reserve. What will captivate you the most is the Tadoba Lake which is a part of the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. This lake acts as a buffer connecting the park's forest with the widespread farmland which spreads up to the Irai water reservoir. This lake has been a persistent source of water and has also offered good habitat to the Muggar crocodiles for them to thrive.
